Construction activity and economic decisions

As I asked my intuition to help find an issue or comment that might interest others this week while in Nevada for a conference, my intuition brought forward comments by people about the huge growth in China and massive number of cranes underway on construction projects, versus America. Regardless of your thoughts about visiting Los Vegas for conferences, a vacation etc, it is interesting how phenomenal growth continues there year after year. The stories of completely rehabbing or even tearing down and rebuilding casinos to rebuild new and the unbelievable prices for land suggest very few people remember prior years when the city struggled when consumers struggled. And I trust those kind of times will not return there or elsewhere.

My thought as I took a short walk after checking into my hotel and seeing the extensive casino and condominium construction, was "Why is America’s focus on spending on entertainment instead of investing for people’s personal future or business?" These short term orientations normally catch up with people or business.

Since timing is everything on picking a point or theme, I am glad intuition suggested picking a picture of the Trump project, as my picture to post on this week’s blog. My original thought was this would show his project as a reference point of the city with nearby cranes and overall construction underway. And for more details on the site including beautiful interiors and the immediate area, their project URL follows:

My intuition again proved useful. While returning home, I read an article on how some new Trump projects are struggling. I did not notice comments about his Los Vegas project. Since I did not keep the article I read and wanted to have a factual basis on this comment, I went to Google to find something comparable.
www.philly.com/philly/business/20070625_Trumps_A_C__era_could_be_near_end.html This URL was more specific on details than my memory, so I added it for those interested in this observation I made in Nevada. And there might even be a good deal to be had for those interested in purchasing a luxury Los Vegas condo.
