What is the Ripple Effect of Small Decisions?
Relating to the Nauset Lighthouse – or My family likes lighthouses.
My wife likes lighthouses, if you have not guessed from earlier entries. I also enjoy the history of how they got there and what they do today other than like pretty.
The present Nauset Lighthouse, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1877.
Fast forward to this century. Modern instrumentation has diminished the need for lighthouses, and the lighthouse faces loss from erosion into the ocean. However, the lighthouse is still used by the fishing fleets and small recreational boaters who navigate close to the shore. The Coast Guard agrees to transfer ownership of the lighthouse to the National Park Service who, in turn, now leases the lighthouse to the Nauset Light Preservation Society.
This lighthouse is the most well known and photographed lighthouse on Cape Cod.
This made me think if the ripple effect sometimes from small decisions. Someone on Cape Cod had the initiative to ask how to think differently and reposition how an asset would be used. Now a scenic lighthouse is available for you and I to enjoy, and small recreational boaters benefit. What underutilized asset in your life or business can be redeployed or converted for better use?
